Ok, I know all moms out that can relate to this one. When you get a new outfit, especially on younger babies, do you ever find it hard to figure out which way is the front verses the back? I had this problem often with Luke, especially the first few months. Some of those baby onesies and outfits can be hard to figure out. And what is with all the snaps!! I know we need them, but half the time with Luke and our baby girl I couldn’t get the snaps to stay snapped…or worse I would snap them up and then think I was done….only to realize that I was off by one snap on the left leg…which meant starting all over again!! I quickly learned to put their arms and legs in the right positions, then start at one end of the outfit or sleeper and slowly work my way to the other end. If I did this, I was effectively checking my snap placement as I went….which allowed me to get it right….at least 90% of the time.
Well….I say all this because I thought we were past that point. After all Luke and our baby girl are at the point where they no longer need those horrible snaps and most of their clothes that might be confusing actually have a tag. I will always remember my mother telling me that the “tag goes in back”.
When I thought we had it “made” now, I didn’t take into account my husband’s lack of experience in the “girl clothing” department. One time I come home to find our baby girl in pink shorts, only to discover when she turned around that they really weren’t “shorts”. It was one of those “skorts” where they are “shorts”, but the front looks like a skirt. I laughed and told my husband they were on backwards and he said “no they aren’t the pockets are in back”. I just laughed some more and told him the pockets are supposed to be in front, and tried to explain the concept of a “skort”.
The funniest moment of “clothing confusion” took place a few weeks back. I was giving Luke a bath while my husband was putting our baby girl in her PJ’s. He was putting her in a new pair that we got for Easter from grandpa, that were light weight. Anyway, there I am trying to wash Luke in the tub and I hear my husband, “who got these for her? I don’t like them.” I asked him why he didn’t like them, I didn’t see any issue with them. Then he said that they zipped in the back. I thought that was strange…after all usually the sleepers/PJ’s with feet zip in front.
Then when Luke and I were on our way out of the bathroom I saw our baby girl. She ran over to us and gibbered at me. I took one look at her and laughed so hard. My husband obviously put the PJ’s on backwards, which took some talent since the feet were on the correct way but the torso area was backwards.
You might wonder how I knew this? Well, these PJ’s have little ballerina’s on them, with ballerina slipper looking feet and a little ruffle that goes on the rear end (which make it look almost like a too-too). So the feet were right, but the pink little too-too part was on her belly instead on her rear end. So funny!!
I can’t wait till our baby girl is older and she can correct her daddy if he starts to dress her backwards. Below you can see a picture of how these PJ’s are supposed to be, so you can visualize a little better what I am talking about.
